Old Woodland Victorian donated to Rec Foundation

The Woodland Recreation Foundation will soon be rehabbing the Victorian on the corner of East and Court streets, readying it for new owners.
Developer Paul Petrovich recently donated the building to the Foundation, which will further the nonprofit’s purpose in assisting with the city of Woodland’s recreation facilities and organizations.
“(Petrovich) is committed to veterans and children and was impressed with the mission of the Woodland Recreation Foundation as a recipient of his generous gift,” said Foundation President Jim Hilliard. “The Foundation plans to complete some rehabilitation to the building and offer it for sale.”

The building will be used for office space.
Since it was moved and never occupied, the electrical, heat and air and plumbing systems were never connected. The Foundation is planning to complete these hookups and have the exterior painted prior to its sale with help from local parents and contractors.
Located at 1080 Court St., the nearly 4,800-square-foot Victorian was built in 1897 by the Keehn brothers as their family residence. It was originally located at 327 Sixth St., near the family’s Keehn Planing Mill on Fifth Street.
“Approximately 10 years ago, Mr. Petrovich moved the house to its current location when he was planning to develop the site into a drug store,” said Hilliard. “He had upgraded many of the utilities prior to moving the home to this location. Although it has not been occupied, the interior and exterior are in very good condition due to it being securely closed up.”
Petrovich owns several properties in Woodland. His most well known is the Gateway Shopping Center, home to anchors Costco and Target, which brings in sales tax revenue for the city each year.
The nonprofit Woodland Recreation Foundation was established in 2000 to collect donations to assist with the city’s recreation facilities and organizations. The Foundation helped fund the Woodland Community & Senior Center, as well as upgrades to existing facilities and youth sports organizations.
In 2017, the Foundation awarded grants to the Woodland Soccer Club for new soccer balls, the Woodland Opera House for its Rising Stars theatre workshop, Dingle Elementary School for a PA system, Woodland High School for girls’ basketball team jerseys, Woodland Tennis Club for student scholarships, and the city’s Parks & Community Services department for Teen Yosemite Camp scholarships, frisbee golf and various other events.
The Foundation is seeking donations for the Victorian rehab project as well as volunteers to help with the restoration.
